My small victories and what you should expect when you graduated.
Hello outsiders, readers and persons. As you know now, i am a happy biology student, but this was not always the case.
Few years ago i studied really hard for be a lawyer, and before that, i was just another confused student in the middle of my first big desition in my life: decided why career i want to study.
It is a priviledge that my family let me started another studies in that i want to. But let's be honest if I had been half prepared for what I was going to encounter after school I wouldn't have gone through such bad experiences.
So in this short post i will try to explain what expect of life when you finish the school (wich is the small victories i had in the last years)
University is not the only option for continue with your life: This one i learned through the hard way. The society, in most of the cases, paint a perfect picture of what i supouse is " the U dreamed" the perfect campus, with the perfect teachers, with the perfect classmates, and of courses, the perfect classes where you learn without any efford because you study "what you want". And NO, you have to study, you have to efford everyday, and some clases not even worth it. But the most important thing: you don´t have to do this to you. You can work and save money to travel around the world, you can study a techniciant, you can take a sabbatical year, you can do a volunteer... life is different for everyone.
-The price registration is insane, most of the university students can´t afford the high tuition and living cost without a credit, all the years (trimester in my case) you have to juggling and think what you prefer: a lunch? or your credit cooking?.
-The emphasis on the career doesn´t matter in a job interview, some collegue sell this, like the last coca-cola. But they literally play with the insecurities of the people. When i go in a job interview (like a current student of biology) the first thing they ask me is if i can do the job correctly, not if i also know other things. Suppose that i want this really amazing job at innova flora (flower exportation company in Colombia) and i said, "well my emphasis is in museum collections and preservation of biologic material"... that´s not very useful information for them, unless i want to get hired in a museum (and God knows i need a doc for that). So no, the emphasis is not very important, is an extra thing that you can use sometimes.
-There are technicians, YES, yes please. I don´t know why people forget about this, maybe for the stigma, but exist institutions that teach practical skills for practicals works. If you don´t have enough money for your university studies this is a really good option, not only because the work of a graduated technichians is well paid, more than a professional (at least in my country is in that way). But also you can grow professional, save money and in the future pay your university with no credits at all.
- Your career is not forever, my parents, high school teachers, even my friends told me in my last year of school that i had to choose a really good barchelot degree, with great action field, with the best salaries, and of course, stable job position. The truth is you will never get the whole package, or you are low paid but with stable position, or you have a great action field and well paid salary but unistable position. Also a modern job not depend only of your degree, you have to study more, learn other useful things because we are A LOT humans on hearth and the competition is fierce. If you want to stay in your confort zone, sorry but you can´t. Your career is not forever.
- A good house is your house, it sounds weirds but it´snt. If you have to move to another city, something to keep in mind is where you live. In general parents really worry for their children and feel that is better if they live with rommies... That´s a mistake, it depends of the person, are you a social person?, are you prefer be on you own?, you know how to use the whashing machine?, you know how to cook? you have to consider all this questions, the price, the location, the neighbors, even the ilumination of the place where will you live. Why?, because a nice place confort you in ugly times and it is important a for healthy mind.
- everybody knows everything, when i graduated, long time ago, seems like everybody had an opinion about my future. I receive a lot of unuseful advices that make me feel confuse of what i wanted. When i see back in the past, everything they told me transform in a big nonesense. So, stay clear of what you really wanted, if you are not sure, experiment things and find it.
This is the post of today, my small victories in this years, it takes some time realize that the world of today is not the world of my parents, that my friends were inexperience like me, and i have to put it together to notice that this are my little achivements.
